The first phase of the Green Battery Project has been completed. The construction of the site to accommodate an advanced recycling pilot plant is built.
It is expected that in 2030 about 70% of new vehicles will be electric. This will require around 1 TWh of batteries in the EU per year. Electric vehicle battery mass production must be established in a way that sustainability and cost criteria are met. Consequently, not only battery manufacturing but also the production of battery components and advanced materials must meet highest criteria with respect to environmental impact.
The Green Battery Project contributes to recycling residual chemicals and materials which increases sustainability of E-magy’s nano-porous silicon manufacturing. These results will in a later phase be incorporated in the functional design of a full-scale industrial production line.
Zero emission mobility is a priority for Kansen voor West, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of REACT-EU (Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe), the European Union’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ERDF aims to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion in the EU by correcting imbalances between its regions. In 2021-2027 it will enable investments in a smarter, greener, more connected and more social Europe that is closer to its citizens.
