By replacing graphite with E-magy’s silicon-dominant anode material, the project seeks to provide cells with higher gravimetric energy density that are designed, manufactured, and based in Europe, enhancing EU competitiveness, resilience, and technological sovereignty in batteries.

The primary objective is to demonstrate the performance and integration potential of lithium-ion battery cells incorporating E-magy’s nanoporous silicon anode material in a high-performance drone application. In collaboration with Tulip Tech and a European cell manufacturer, the project aims to design, develop, produce, and validate prototype cells tailored to the demanding requirements of advanced UAV systems.

Ultimately, this early-stage technical collaboration serves as a critical stepping stone toward commercial adoption of E-magy-enabled cells in UAVs and other high-performance, weight-sensitive applications. It will provide key data, stakeholder alignment, and confidence in the viability of next-generation silicon anode technology for aerial mobility systems.

Both E-magy’s material and Tulip’s battery packs are manufactured in the Netherlands.

“We are excited to partner with Tulip Tech in this innovative endeavor. By leveraging our advanced silicon-dominant anode technology, we believe this collaboration will not only enhance the performance of drone battery packs but also pave the way for a new era of high-capacity energy solutions in aerial mobility applications. Together, we can drive the evolution of sustainable, high-performance battery systems,” stated E-magy CEO Casper Peeters.

“Collaborating with E-magy presents a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of battery technology for drones. By integrating their cutting-edge silicon anode material, we are confident that we can achieve significant improvements in energy density and overall efficiency. This partnership will enable us to meet the rigorous demands of advanced UAV systems and enhance our competitive edge in the market,” stated Tulip Tech CEO Bernd Rietberg.

The MoU was signed at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, bringing together innovators, decision-makers, media, and potential customers from the entire tech ecosystem.
